Identity, Values, and Principles of Caritas Ukraine

Caritas Ukraine is a national network of charitable organizations founded by the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, which creates systemic and sustainable solutions to help people overcome crises and live with dignity.

Father Andrii Nahirniak, Director of the Network and Identity Directorate of Caritas Ukraine, talks about the identity, values, and principles of Caritas Ukraine, which are fundamental to all our activities. Ethical and professional requirements for network employees, volunteers, and partners are based on the identity of Caritas Ukraine and are defined in the Code of Ethics and Conduct, as well as other documents of the Safeguarding system.

The Safeguarding System in the Caritas Ukraine Network

Safeguarding is the responsibility of all member organizations of the Caritas Ukraine network to ensure that their personnel, programs, and activities respect the dignity and rights of all people, do not cause harm, and do not expose either children or adults to the risk of abuse.

Iryna Lazorevych, Safeguarding Policies and System Implementation Manager at Caritas Ukraine, explains how the Safeguarding system operates within the Caritas Ukraine network.

Safeguarding against Abuse and Exploitation

Caritas Ukraine strongly condemns and prohibits all forms of abuse and exploitation, adheres a zero-tolerance approach to sexual exploitation and abuse, and is unequivocally against all forms of human trafficking.

Marta Yatsyshchyn, Safeguarding Policies and System Implementation Manager at Caritas Ukraine, discusses the main requirements for safeguarding against all forms of abuse and exploitation that apply within the Caritas Ukraine network.

Protection of Children and Vulnerable Adults

Caritas Ukraine is committed to conducting charitable activities in a manner that is safe for children and vulnerable adults, and implements additional measures within its network to protect the rights of children and vulnerable adults, as well as to prevent and respond to all cases of violence and abuse against them.

Anti-Corruption and Fraud, Prevention of Conflicts of Interest

Caritas Ukraine adheres to a zero-tolerance approach and does not permit any forms of corrupt or fraudulent abuse in the network’s operations, and also takes measures to prevent such violations, identify, and timely resolve conflicts of interest.

Olha Soroka, Director of the Organizational Development Department of the Caritas Ukraine network, discusses the Anti-Corruption and Fraud Policy, as well as the Conflict of Interest Prevention Policy, which are in effect within the Caritas Ukraine network.
